Near & Far

Student artists create a landscape of somewhere they have always wanted to see and visit (older students use ‘Google Maps’ to virtually visit, younger students create a collaged book of ideas). They then learn about how color can change the ‘mood’ of a painting

LESSON 1

In this lesson, student artists use GoogleMaps to ‘visit’ somewhere they have always

wanted to visit. They use street view to capture and print a building that they will draw.

LESSON 2

In this lesson, student artists use their printout from Lesson 1 to begin a drawing.

They use rulers and guide marks to help draw the general outline of the building, and they add details to help develop the specific drawing that they chose.

LESSON 3

In this lesson, student artists learn about mood in painting and how to create it using brushstrokes and color. They then paint their sky to determine the mood of their artwork.

LESSON 4

In this lesson, student artists choose whether or not to finish their artwork using analogous colors or complementary colors. They use a color wheel and mix their own colors according to their choice.
