About ‘Around the Neighborhood’:
THIS PROJECT IS SPLIT OVER THREE DAYS.

Students study the life & work of the African-American artist Jacob Lawrence, specifically looking at his paintings of Harlem, where he lived.

Students create sketches of their own neighborhood and finish by creating a collage, similar to how Jacob Lawrence used his neighborhood  (Harlem) as inspiration for his paintings.

A note that the Doodles Academy curriculum encourages a growth mindset by focusing on process over product: projects are designed to allow students to tell their own stories and individualize art projects. This creates a more engaging and more challenging environment where students learn to solve their own problems rather than copying a model.
