About ‘Superheroes’:
Superhero: Vine-essa
“She was born and her parents couldn’t take care of her and she was given to the orphanage as a baby and these scientists came and adopted her and injected her with plant and animal DNA to see what would happen. Still being human she ran away when she was older and her powers developed and she can shape shift into any living thing like plant or animal. And she lives in this animal kingdom with animals that can talk and she saves animals from being hurt or hunted.”
THIS PROJECT IS SPLIT OVER FOUR DAYS.
In this project, kids learn to recognize shapes and types of lines as they design and draw their own superheroes.
They begin by creating a book that tells the backstory of their superhero using their choice of drawing, writing, or a combination. They then move on to drawing and watercoloring their superhero.
A note that the Doodles Academy curriculum encourages a growth mindset by focusing on process over product: projects are designed to allow students to tell their own stories and individualize art projects. This creates a more engaging and more challenging environment where students learn to solve their own problems rather than copying a model.
A typical day in the project:
Students watch a video giving them context and demonstrations.
Students receive instructions and work on their art independently.
…and more:
-Guardians will receive emails detailing concepts they can discuss with their children.
-After the final lesson, students will submit a photo of their artwork and an artist statement.
